The school's calm, compassionate pastoral approach helps pupils feel safe, attend more regularly and behave well. The curriculum is well designed and adapted for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, inclusion is strong, and careers guidance and personal development are notably effective. Staff feel valued, and professional development is broad and relevant. The main areas to sharpen are academic support and classroom reinforcement of foundational skills. Additional support is not always precisely matched to gaps in pupils' reading, writing, spelling and mathematics, and classroom teaching does not always consolidate the gains from those sessions, so some gaps close more slowly than they could. These are improvement points rather than serious weaknesses, and leaders are well placed to address them.

Areas for Improvement

• Targeted academic support is sometimes not precisely matched to pupils' specific gaps in foundational knowledge.
• Teaching in the classroom does not always consolidate the gains pupils make during extra support sessions.
• Some gaps in reading, writing, spelling and mathematics do not close as quickly as they could.
