Areas for Improvement

• The recently introduced phonics programme is not embedded into the curriculum, so some pupils who are ready to learn the sounds that letters make are not supported to learn early reading knowledge as swiftly as they should.
• Newly implemented assessment systems are still embedding, so pupils’ progress from their starting points in some curriculum areas is not as robustly well known, and gaps in pupils’ knowledge and skills are sometimes not identified or addressed.
• Some leadership actions are at the early stages of implementation, and it is too early to evidence the impact of this work.
