La Salette Catholic Primary School is performing strongly overall. Inspectors found strong standard in achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing, with safeguarding met. Pupils achieve well across all subjects and attain above national averages in reading, writing and mathematics over time, including disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Attendance is excellent and behaviour is calm and orderly; pupils are proud of their school and feel safe. The school's Catholic context and close work with the church and local schools are notable, as is the fact that it serves a community with well-above-average location deprivation while having below-average free school meal and SEN support proportions. Leaders are ambitious, strategic and well supported by governors, and staff value the professional learning and wellbeing culture. The curriculum is well planned, inclusive and enriched, with a strong focus on reading, writing, speaking and mathematics from Reception. The main area for improvement is early years. Provision is graded expected rather than strong, and leaders should further develop staff expertise so that interactions between children and all adults are consistently high quality, particularly to develop speech and vocabulary. This is a focused next step rather than a widespread concern, and the school is otherwise in a very strong position.
