Rood End Primary is a welcoming, caring school where pupils feel safe, attend regularly and behave well. Pastoral care and safeguarding are effective, pupils with SEND are identified promptly and supported well, including through The Hub for complex needs. Reading is prioritised and behaviour expectations are clear and consistently applied. However, the school's curriculum is not yet delivered consistently enough. Pupils do not learn some subject knowledge in sufficient depth or remember it securely, misconceptions are not always picked up promptly, and outcomes remain too low. Early years provision is variable: activities do not always build incrementally, adults do not consistently extend children's language, and intentions are sometimes unclear. The reading curriculum for older pupils is not broad enough, and enrichment beyond the classroom is limited. Leaders and governors have an accurate view and have invested in relevant training, and staff feel workload is considered, but leaders have not yet secured consistent implementation. The school serves a community with many pupils joining at non-standard times, including many who speak English as an additional language; the headteacher took up post in September 2022. This was a graded inspection, and no overall effectiveness grade is given under the current framework.
