Our Lady and St Hubert’s Catholic Primary School is an inclusive, welcoming school at the centre of its community. This was its first section 5 inspection since becoming an academy in the Emmaus Catholic Multi-Academy Company, although the predecessor school had previously been judged outstanding. Inspectors found strong provision across all key areas, with no overall effectiveness grade given under the current framework. Pupils are polite, respectful and feel safe; attendance is good; early years routines help children settle quickly; and behaviour and attitudes are calm and purposeful. The curriculum is broad and ambitious, reading and phonics are particularly well developed, and personal development, pastoral support and enrichment are strong. Safeguarding is effective. Leaders have high expectations and staff implement consistent routines. However, the school’s checks on what pupils know and remember are not yet consistently effective in some foundation subjects, so pupils do not always deepen their knowledge over time. Support for some pupils with SEND is not always precisely matched to their needs, which can limit how well they build on prior learning. Most parents are positive, though a small number have a less favourable view, and the trust is working with the school to strengthen parent relationships.
