Monkhouse Primary School is performing well overall, with an overall effectiveness rating of 'Good'. The school creates a positive environment where pupils feel happy and safe, and they enjoy their learning experiences. The curriculum is ambitious, particularly in reading and mathematics, encouraging pupils to think critically and engage with their local and wider communities. Support for pupils' mental and physical health is also a strong focus. However, while pupils generally behave well and contribute positively to the school, there are some areas needing improvement. These include the sequencing of lessons in certain subjects and the effectiveness of support plans for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The school has not had an inspection since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, making this evaluation particularly significant. While there is much to celebrate, there are concerns regarding the clarity of individual support plans for some pupils with SEND and the limited understanding pupils have of world faiths and cultures. Overall, the leadership does well to engage with staff and support their professional development, contributing to a strong team culture within the school.
