Middlefield Primary Academy is a happy, welcoming school where pupils flourish and are well prepared for their next stage. Inspectors found behaviour and personal development to be outstanding, with exemplary attitudes, calm classrooms, strong well-being support and exceptional preparation for life in modern Britain. The quality of education, leadership and management, and early years provision are good; children make a strong start in early years, reading is a clear strength, and pupils with SEND are generally well supported. The main area for improvement is curriculum implementation. While the curriculum is broad and ambitious, some subject thinking is less established, so pupils do not consistently build and remember the intended knowledge or achieve as well in those areas. The school is already reviewing and refining its curriculum, and leadership, governance and trust support are effective. This was the school’s first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic and its first section 5 inspection since 2014. It is part of the Diamond Learning Partnership Trust, and under current arrangements no overall effectiveness grade was awarded.
