Everest Community Academy is a secondary comprehensive school where pupils generally enjoy attending because of a strong sense of community, warm relationships with staff and a feeling of safety. Behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management are good, while the quality of education requires improvement. Pupils recognise recent improvements in behaviour, say bullying is uncommon and dealt with well, and benefit from a wide range of leadership, enrichment and careers opportunities. The school has experienced substantial disruption in recent years, including several changes of leadership and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Published outcomes are well below the national average and dipped significantly last year, but the trust has provided additional leadership support and current leaders have made a notable impact in a short period. The curriculum is broad and ambitious, and support for reading is in place, but delivery in classrooms is inconsistent. Some pupils, particularly disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND, struggle to access learning and this is not identified quickly enough. Safeguarding arrangements are effective. Leaders and governors have an accurate understanding of what still needs to improve, and staff feel well supported with workload and well-being, but the impact of professional development is not yet fully evident in curriculum delivery.
