Baring Primary School is a warm, welcoming community school where pupils feel safe and are well supported. Inspectors found high expectations and an ambitious curriculum that builds from pupils' starting points, with reading a clear priority and effective phonics teaching. Most pupils achieve in line with national averages by the time they leave, and pupils with SEND are identified quickly and supported well. Pupils are polite, low-level disruption is rare, and personal development is a standout strength, with rich opportunities for citizenship, charity and community involvement. The main area for improvement is consistency in some subjects. Leaders have a clear view of the curriculum and teachers often adapt well, but in some subjects activity choices and adaptations are not closely matched to the intended learning, so pupils do not always build the same depth of knowledge as elsewhere. Attendance is improving year on year, staff feel supported by leaders and governors, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. This was the school's first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic, and no overall effectiveness grade was awarded under the current framework.
