Leaders have built a clear sense of purpose, and their recent work has improved attendance and provision for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Pupils are happy, feel safe and behave well, benefiting from a caring Christian ethos and a strong sense of belonging. Strengths include early years provision, phonics and reading, mathematics, inclusion, and personal development. Children get off to a positive start in Nursery and Reception, and by Year 6 pupils achieve well, especially in reading, with many above national averages. Pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils are generally well supported and included in school life, and attendance is now close to or at national averages for most groups. The main areas for further development are consistency in handwriting and presentation across year groups, and ensuring that subjects beyond reading, writing and mathematics—particularly creative subjects—are taught as well as the core curriculum. Leaders have begun to address both areas, but the work is at an early stage. Disadvantaged pupils' combined reading, writing and mathematics outcomes have also been below national non-disadvantaged peers in some recent years, although the report notes that pupil premium funding is used effectively.
