St Peter’s is a happy, caring and inclusive Church of England primary school where pupils feel safe, behave very well and benefit from warm relationships with staff. Personal development is a standout strength: pupils are respectful, compassionate and actively contribute to their community, and the school’s values are clearly understood and modelled by adults. Pupils achieve well in reading, writing and mathematics, phonics is taught strongly, and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are identified quickly and supported so they can access the same high-quality learning. Leadership is strong and focused on pupils’ best interests, with effective support from the trust and local academy committee. Early years provision is good, children settle quickly and become independent, curious learners, and safeguarding arrangements are effective. This was the school’s first routine inspection since the COVID-19 pandemic and, under current arrangements, no overall effectiveness grade was given. The main area for improvement is that the school’s approach to engaging pupils and checking learning is not yet fully embedded in every lesson and subject, which means some pupils’ gaps are not identified sharply enough and a few do not learn as well as they could.
