The academy supports a diverse and inclusive community, with more than 60% of its pupils speaking English as an additional language and more than 86% of students from ethnic minority backgrounds. Skinners' Academy provides a strong pastoral care system, catering to child-centered development and upholding the school motto, "Be the best you can."

The sixth form at Skinners' Academy enables students to follow a variety of pathways, including A Levels and level 3 BTECs, with 125 places available for Year 12. The academy sits among a well-connected area, with easy transport access via bus routes 253, 254, 259, 279, 29, 141, and 341, while the nearest stations are Manor House, Harringay Green Lanes (via a 5-minute walk), Finsbury Park, and Stamford Hill. The school is backed by a historic sponsor, The Worshipful Company of Skinners, a London Livery Company that has played a significant role in the education sector since the 16th century.

Established in 1890, the academy has a rich history, originating as The Skinners' Company's School for Girls. In 2010, the school reopened as Skinners' Academy to meet the needs of the regenerated Woodberry Down area, with the support of The Skinners' Company, Hackney Council, and The Hackney Learning Trust. Today, the school caters to a wide range of ages and genders, with a staff body led by Head Teacher Shereka James. The school underwent periods of leadership throughout the decades and has seen the tutelage of eight Headmistresses and three Principals, with an active alumni association, the Skinners' School Old Girls Association (SSOGA).
